The calendar published by the PWA and IWT some time ago gives us hope for a great 2025 season, as it features no fewer than ten events with four or five stars. There has now been an update, according to which the event in Cloudbreak, Fiji has been postponed to September to allow enough time for funding.
The wave pros are set to kick off at the legendary Australian break Margaret River at the end of January, followed by further 4-star events in Japan (Omaezaki, 18-24 February 2025) and Puerto Rico (Shacks, 1-9 March 2025), before the first 5-star event of the year takes place at the end of March with the World Cup in Matanzas, Chile. All the top favourites are likely to be in the thick of the action here at the latest, fighting for valuable World Championship points.
The decisions on the World Championship titles in the wave will certainly only be made in the second half of the year, as four World Cups of the highest category are scheduled between July and October: Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Sylt and Maui. Only these will count in the battle for the men's and women's World Championship titles, with the Aloha Classic as the mandatory "Grand Final".
But the 3-star events also include high-calibre spots such as Moulay (Morocco), Pacasmayo (Peru), Klitmøller (Denmark), Mayo (Ireland) and Tiree (UK). Experience has shown that some top stars do not miss out on these legendary events. The regional tour for Europe also includes stand-by events in Germany (GWA), Denmark and the Netherlands.
