Clouds over Yokosuka: The weather was rather gloomy at the start of the last World Cup of the season

The first day of the PWA World Cup in Japan passed without any sporting highlights. With cold temperatures and grey skies, the athletes stayed ashore while the organisers hoped for better wind conditions for the following day.

The start of the Fly! ANA Yokosuka, Miura Windsurf World Cup 2025 brought hardly any wind, instead unusually cold temperatures and a dull, grey sky that dampened the mood on the Japanese coast. After registration closed and the official opening ceremony took place at 13:00, the starters remained in a waiting position throughout the day for the last and decisive foil event of the season. Only a few short test strokes were possible in the morning.

The weather forecast for the second day of the event makes organisers and athletes much more optimistic. North-easterly winds of between 10 and 14 knots are forecast for Friday, which should provide ideal conditions for the start of the first races. In addition, the cloud cover is expected to clear and provide more favourable conditions. The current forecast gives hope that the World Cup can now really get going after the windless start.

The foiling world championship titles will be awarded in Japan, with Matteo Iachino and Justine Lemeteyer the top favourites. You can find a preview with all the information on placings and chances here:

Tomorrow's skippers meeting is scheduled for 8:00 am, which is midnight European time. If you want to stay up all night, you can watch the races on the PWA livestream!
