PWA Junior World Cup Bonaire: Five days full of action - Lorho, Smits, Gomperts and de Jong dominate

The Bonaire Youth PWA Slalom World Cup 2025 proved to be a complete success. The bay of Lac Bay provided perfect wind conditions on every single day of the event, so that a total of 20 fin eliminations and 14 foil eliminations could be held in the various age categories.

Exciting finals on the foil

The last day of competition began with three foil eliminations, with everything still wide open before the final heats. In the boys' U21 class, Kasper Nielsen, Brendan Lorho and Thijs Hanemaaijer fought a close race for the podium places. Nielsen made a brilliant start to the final day and secured not only the day's victory with three wins in a row, but also the overall lead in the youth classification. Lorho rode consistently to second place, while Hanemaaijer, who is known for his close finishes, took third place. Video recordings had to be used several times to decide the placings - sometimes the athletes were separated by just centimetres.

In the girls' U21 class, Kit De Jong challenged her sister Bobbi-Lynn on the final day and capitalised on her mistakes. However, it was not enough for the overall victory, so Bobbi-Lynn triumphed ahead of Kit and Lone. The boys' U15 class was only decided on the final day between Pedro Grubissich and Ashton Reid. An early start by Reid in the first race paved the way for Grubissich to take overall victory. Alp Ozer secured third place. Also worth mentioning is Jaden Reid's strong performance on the final day, which was not enough for a podium finish, but was impressive nonetheless. In the U13 class, Noah Coates was the only participant to show great commitment and stamina on the foil course. He is regarded as a promising talent for the future.

Outstanding dominance on the fin

In the Fin classes, there were several athletes who had an unblemished record. Arxon Gomperts in the U15, Tycho Smits in the U17, Bobbi-Lynn De Jong in the U21 girls and Brendan Lorho in the U21 boys all won their races. An impressive performance that underlines the dominance of these young talents.

In the U21 boys' event, there was a thrilling duel for second place between the up-and-coming local talent Storm Nicolai (Starboard) and the experienced champion Thijs Hanemaaijer. In the end, experience prevailed and Hanemaaijer secured second place ahead of Nicolai. Ibrahim Ali Donmez showed up once again at the end of the event, but due to his earlier results he was unable to challenge for the podium.

Newcomers provide surprises

A new face caused a stir in the U17 boys' class. Alexandre Levalois from Guadeloupe, who competed for Aruba, secured second place and is regarded as a promising talent for the future. Olivier van Sisseren completed the podium in Bonaire.

The boys' U15 class offered exciting competitions for the podium places. Victor Schulz Jakobsen put the dominant Arxon Gomperts under pressure at times. Thomas Michael, who represented the next generation from Curaçao, secured third place after thrilling duels with Kenny Abrahamsz and Joey Ross.

In the boys' U13 class, local Julien Blom dominated, but was challenged by Noah Coates and Reef De Kanter. Despite their young age, these young talents already showed great ambition and give hope for a promising future. In the U21 girls' competition, it was a family affair for the De Jong sisters. Bobbi-Lynn deservedly came out on top, followed by Kit in second place and Lone in third.
