The second day of the freestyle competition at the Fuerteventura PWA Grand Slam 2025 brought the decisions in the double eliminations. Sarah-Quita Offringa secured her 27th world title, while Yentel Caers remained unbeaten in the men's competition. Lennart Neubarer started a spectacular comeback.

After the singles comes the doubles: the morning after the first round, the action continued straight away, with both the men's and women's double elimination rounds going ahead in view of the weaker winds at the weekend - right through to the highly exciting final heats. In yesterday's women's single elimination final, Sarah-Quita Offringa and Maaike Huvermann were separated by less than one point. Today, Huvermann did everything she could to defeat Offringa in the double elimination final and actually managed to force a super final.

Offringa used the short break before the decisive duel to compose himself. When it came down to it, SQ was once again able to go the extra mile and showed Culos and Burner on both sides. She also landed a high, clean forward loop. With a lead of 1.8 points, she denied Huvermann her first world title. This takes her tally of world titles to an impressive 27. Maaike Huvermann sank to the floor in disappointment when she learnt the result. Nevertheless, she can be proud of her achievement, as no-one has ever come so close to snatching the freestyle crown from Offringa.

Never before has anyone come so close to snatching the World Cup title from Offringa.

Lisa Kloster completed the podium, third place on Fuerte and in the world championship ranking is a new highlight of her career. The German showed several strong performances and added some power moves to her arsenal. Elena Dominick slipped down another place to fifth. She was beaten by a very strong Ziva Batis, who started a race to catch up after her early exit in the single against Sarah-Quita. However, the Slovenian was able to realise her full potential in the double elimination. She fought her way up from last place to fourth place with three consecutive victories.

Neubauer with a strong race to catch up, Balz Müller conjures up a cheeseroll into Shaka

There were also some remarkable comebacks in the men's event. Lennart Neubauer, the reigning world champion, improved from ninth place in the single elimination to fifth place in the double elimination. He achieved the highest score of the entire competition against runner-up Adrien Bosson in Heat 30b. With 42.5 points, he was the only participant to break the 40-point barrier. He then narrowly lost by half a point to Jacopo Testa - in his sixth heat of the day and despite a sore ankle.

Dieter van der Eyken also put in a strong comeback, winning four heats in a row to secure sixth place in the double elimination - his best result on Fuerteventura since 2019. Adrien Bosson and Bodhi Kempen shared seventh place, with the latter achieving his best result on the World Tour. Kempen's performance against Gollito Estredo in Heat 28a was particularly impressive, when he scored 36.8 points. Gollito himself, the nine-time world champion, shared ninth place with Niclas Nebelung, Antony Ruenes and Balz Müller, who landed a cheeseroll into Shaka and thus lived up to his reputation as an innovator.

Top results for Testa and Moriya, Caers remains unbeaten

Jacopo Testa also made up two places in the double elimination and shook up the top three once again. Firstly, he denied Japan's mega-talent Takumi Moriya a first podium finish on the World Tour, before also defeating Steven Van Broeckhoven to reach the final. Van Broeckhoven slipped down one place to third, but can be satisfied with his start to the season. It is his first podium since Sylt 2023. Moriya may be disappointed to have lost his podium place, but fourth place in Fuerteventura is still a great result for the 18-year-old Japanese.

Yentel Caers spent most of the day waiting to see who he would face in the final of the double elimination. Accordingly, he went into the final against Jacopo Testa well rested and well prepared. The Italian was almost able to keep up with Caers on starboard tack, landing a spectacular triple spock, among other things. On port, however, he ended up missing a move on the scoresheet and had to have a forward loop scored with just 3.2 points. Caers, on the other hand, shone with a bongka, a massive shifty and a pasko. The second place nevertheless represents Testa's best result in Fuerteventura - and Yentel Caers remains at the top and goes into the second and decisive event on Sylt as the world championship leader!
