Matteo Iachino has been more consistent than almost any other foil rider this year, making him the only 1 World Championship favourite
Matteo Iachino goes into the final foil slalom event of the season as the top favourite for the World Championship title. How did the preparation go and what equipment does the Italian have with him?

Matteo Iachino goes into the final World Cup event of the season in Japan (13 to 17 November) as the World Cup leader. After winning in Guadeloupe at the start of the season and finishing second on Sylt, the Italian has a comfortable lead ahead of the decisive race. His closest rival Pierre Mortefon "only" finished fourth on Sylt, while Johan Søe is one result off the lead. The PWA asked Iachino a few questions.

You are travelling to Japan with a comfortable lead of 300 points - how are you feeling ahead of the season finale, with your sights set on a third world championship title?

I feel good. A race is a race. As always, I want to take one step at a time. As always, I have prepared myself as well as possible.

How have you been preparing for Japan since Sylt and did your trip go smoothly?

Everything went well, I had a great couple of weeks training in Italy. The trip went really well ... as smoothly as it can be with all the equipment we take with us.

What equipment did you bring with you to Japan?

I have my Starboard X15 85 and my entire sail range from 5.0 m2 to 9.0 m2. Normally we use 8.0 and 7.0 the most here, then the full foil set with 550s, 450s and 400s front wings. I basically brought a full set and spare sails and masts in 7.0 and 8.0 sizes in case something happens during a race.
