After two years of slalom action off Pozo, the Gran Canaria Windsurf World Cup 2025 will once again be a pure wave event. Slalom X was still on the schedule at the beginning of the year, but recently had to be cancelled. The reason for this is a lack of sponsorship money, as confirmed to us by organiser Björn Dunkerbeck. He combines the news with an appeal: "This is a wake-up call for all windsurfers who have something to say in big companies. We need you to promote one of the most beautiful water sports as it deserves!"
After a long break, slalom has been back at the hardcore spot Pozo since 2023 - in the first year with a free choice of foil or fin, with most of the Pozo hack also opting for foil. Last season, the new Slalom X discipline celebrated its premiere in Gran Canaria. The "sausage" as a jumping obstacle and an optional chicane offered spectacular races and generated enthusiasm among fans and riders alike.
This makes it all the more disappointing that there was no longer enough support for two disciplines at the Gran Canaria World Cup. This means that Pozo will once again be a pure wave World Cup, with many youth and junior classes in addition to the PWA/WWT pros. As things stand at the moment, Slalom X will only take place on Fuerteventura, where the new world champions will be determined in just one event - a situation that the freestyle ladies have known for years.
