While on the water the athletes compete for world championship titles in the wave, freestyle, foil slalom and slalom X disciplines, the constructors' competition between the various brands is primarily a prestige issue. After an exciting season, Starboard is the overall winner in the board classification, while NeilPryde secures the sail crown in a thrilling duel against Severne Windsurfing. Patrik's dominance in the foil slalom category is particularly impressive, with the brand triumphing in all three categories - boards, sails and foils. Severne can console himself with victories in both wave categories. The surprise of the season is WeOne, a relatively new brand that has made an impressive leap from 14th place last year to fifth place this season - mainly thanks to the top placings of team riders Blanca Alabau, Jacopo Testa and Steven van Broeckhoven.
For Starboard, the renewed overall victory in the board classification is a success that emphasises the brand's long-standing dominance. Svein Rasmussen, founder and CEO of Starboard, emphasises the extraordinary track record: "Over the last 20 years, one brand has won more constructors' titles than any other. No globally known equipment brand in motorsport, skiing, cycling, tennis, MotoGP or sailing has achieved 88 per cent title dominance over a 20-year period." By way of comparison, Audi in the Le Mans/WEC sector has achieved around 72 per cent with 13 victories in 18 years. Rasmussen is particularly proud of the fact that Starboard is not only successful in sport, but also sets standards in the area of sustainability. The brand has been honoured with both the World Sailing Sustainability Award and the Sports Positive Award supported by the IOC.
Starboard's success is based on continuous investment in riders and product development. "We have brought young riders on board and seen them become legendary icons over the years," explains Rasmussen. These athletes include multiple PWA world champion Sarah-Quita Offringa, foil world champion Matteo Iachino, freestyle king Lennart Neubauer and the most successful athlete in the world, Bjørn Dunkerbeck. The next generation with Bobbi-Lynn De Jong, Junior Wave World Champion Ryu Noguchi and Jahdan Tyger is also making rapid progress. Up-and-coming foil stars such as Lina Eržen and Fabian Wolf as well as Oda Johanne Stokstad Brødholt and Federico Morisio are important pieces of the success puzzle. With its workshop on its own lake, Starboard can produce prototypes within two days and thus react quickly to developments, says Rasmussen.
NeilPryde won the sail category in a close duel against Severne Windsurfing. Philip Mackenbrock, Head of Marketing at NeilPryde, is delighted: "Winning the PWA Constructors Championship again fills us with incredible pride. It confirms that the effort, time and passion we put into sail development really does make a difference." Improving performance has always been at the heart of NeilPryde, and the history of championship titles is not only part of the company's DNA, but also remains the greatest motivation for every single day. Mackenbrock also emphasises the importance of the team riders: "This title would not be possible without the exceptional skills, commitment and courage of our team riders. Their willingness to go to the absolute limit, to drive the last metre and to take risks at the right moment is what ultimately translates performance into results on the water."
Patrik showed the most impressive dominance in the foil slalom category. The brand won all three categories - boards, sails and foils - underlining its supremacy in this discipline. Henning Terstiege, Head of International Marketing, explains: "We are extremely proud of Patrik's solid performance this year! The success didn't come easily - it was earned through hard work and full commitment to development." According to Terstiege, the drivers work hand in hand like a close-knit crew of friends and liaise closely with the development team to drive performance forward week after week. The driving force behind this success is Patrik Diethelm himself, who translates his unrivalled knowledge of hydrofoil, board and sail design into a coherent windsurfing system that was obviously very hard to beat in 2025. "Our AEON Foil System won every single foil elimination in 2025. What a year to remember!" says a delighted Terstiege.
While Starboard, NeilPryde and Patrik triumphed in their respective main categories, Severne Windsurfing was able to impress in the wave category. The brand secured the title in both the wave sailing category and, for the first time, in the wave board category. Kurosh Kiani, International Marketing Manager at Severne Windsurfing, commented on the success: "PWA Wave Constructors Champions. Once again. This marks ten years consistently at the top of the constructors rankings, first in sails and now as a board brand." Kiani thanks the entire Severne team for the continuous development of the brand every single year. The success in the wave sector emphasises Severne's strength in this demanding segment, which places the highest demands on materials and design.
One of the biggest surprises of the season is the rise of WeOne. The relatively new brand improved from 14th place in 2024 to 5th place in the current 2025 season. WeOne was particularly impressive in the freestyle and foil slalom categories and established itself as a serious challenger to the established brands. WeOne even achieved third place in the foil slalom board ranking behind Patrik and Starboard.
The PWA Constructors Rankings are based on a sophisticated points system. For each event of the season, the best two results of each brand are taken into account, based on an exponential points system. For example, 0.7 points are awarded for a win, and the lowest total score at the end of the season wins. According to the PWA, this system is intended to ensure that the brands not only sign top riders, but also have to invest in a broad range of riders in order to be successful in the overall standings.
