Pierre Mortefon secures the 2025 Slalom X World Champion title at the PWA Grand Slam in Tenerife. With two wins in two events, the Frenchman demonstrates his dominance in the discipline and confidently defends his title from the previous year.

Pierre Mortefon has secured the 2025 Slalom X World Champion title ahead of schedule. On the penultimate day of the Playa Surf CBbC Hotel Tenerife El Médano Windsurf Grand Slam, no official competition could be held due to a lack of wind. As the scoring period in Slalom X came to an end, Mortefon is the old and new world champion. The Frenchman dominated the season with victories at both events in Fuerteventura and Tenerife and hardly gave his competitors a chance.

Dominant performance in Tenerife

Mortefon put in an impressive performance in Tenerife. He won two of the four completed eliminations and took second place once. He was able to record an eighth place as a scratch result, meaning he won the event with 3.4 points. Despite some challenges with his equipment between events, the now four-time world champion left no doubt about his superiority. "I'm really happy. It was a difficult event with the changes between wave and slalom, but I had a great start," explained Mortefon after his triumph.

Strong competition on the podium

As in the previous year, Matteo Iachino had to settle for second place in the overall standings. This is the Italian's sixth runner-up finish in his career. "Another year, another second place. This is the sixth time I've been runner-up, but I have to congratulate Pierre, he deserved to win," said Iachino, showing himself to be a fair sportsman. He finished fourth in Tenerife, but that was enough to secure second place in the overall standings.

First overall podium finish for Vonk

Jordy Vonk completes the World Championship podium. The Dutchman, who is about to give birth to his second child, overcame a late disqualification in Elimination 5 due to an early start and secured his first podium finish in the overall standings. He finished third in Tenerife: "It's slowly sinking in, it's been many years of hard work and I've often finished fourth. Last year I lost the podium at the last buoy in the last elimination on Fuerte, which of course hurts, but it also gives me motivation to come back stronger. To finally get one of these places feels amazing," said Vonk, delighted with his success.

Unpredictable conditions in El Médano

The penultimate day of the event in Tenerife once again demonstrated the unpredictability of windsurfing. While the forecast for yesterday had predicted something different, the conditions turned out to be completely different. In the end, no official competitions could be organised. Instead, the organisers organised a fun race in which the participants started from El Cabezo and finished with a beach finish in front of the Playa Surf CBbC Hotel Tenerife El Médano. As there were no more official results and the scoring period for Slalom X came to an end, Mortefon was crowned world champion.
