Sufficient wind and moderate waves provided the conditions on the third day of the PWA World Cup in Tenerife. The competition organisers decided in the morning that this day would be dedicated to the youngsters. The U18 boys and girls got ready.
Sol Degrieck and Carlos Kiefer Quintana emerge victorious
The youngsters started the day with sails of around 4.2 square metres: "That was the biggest sail I've ever sailed in a heat and I've ever landed a double loop," reported the winner Carlos Kiefer after his heat. With this double loop and two solid wave rides, he absolutely stood out and deserved to take first place.
Ryu Noguchi from Japan and Leon Maethner from Germany completed the podium. Noguchi now leads the U18 annual rankings.
In the girls' event, it was the talented Belgian Sol Degrieck who stood at the top of the podium at the end of the day. The 14-year-old carved up the waves more powerfully than anyone else and deserved her place ahead of Schilling and Piccaglia. Special mention must also go to the youngest participant, Trine Gobisch from Germany, who finished in fourth place at the age of eleven.

First round of the men's competition already completed, continues today
When the wind died in the early afternoon and the waves stopped, the competition had to be cancelled after the first round of the men's elimination. Event organiser Dany Bruch, who didn't miss the chance to compete himself, unfortunately injured his foot in his heat and is therefore out - a shame, he knows the spot in Cabezo like the back of his hand and could probably have caused a shake or two with his radical wave rides and solid jumps.
The forecast for today looks very good - hopefully the conditions will last longer than yesterday. The men's second round has just started. The wind is already blowing for sails around 5.0 square metres and the waves over the Cabezo reef should get better and better as the day progresses due to the rising water.
