A new discipline was introduced this year with Slalom X, which has created additional excitement. The première was a complete success, and it was hard to take your eyes off the screen during the exciting heats in Pozo and on Fuerte. Speaking of screens: The PWA has once again improved its live stream, with spectacular drone footage, overlays, live interviews and, of course, commentator Ben Proffitt, there's never a dull moment!
The riders also made the World Cup season special: first and foremost Sarah-Quita Offringa, who added three world championship titles to her collection. In wave riding, freestyle and slalom X, SQ was the measure of all things. Even if a World Championship title for Lina Erpenstein would have been the bigger sensation from a German perspective, the future doctor is likely to be one of Sarah-Quita's main opponents next year after graduating from university. In freestyle, Lisa Kloster is another German who has worked her way up to the top of the world rankings and finished fourth this year, how much further can she go?
Marlon and Leon Maether - the "surf guys" - also finished the season in fourth place in the juniors and pro juniors. Trine Gobisch came fourth in the girls' category - so things are looking good for the next generation! Sol Degrieck, Liam Dunkerbeck, Alexia Kiefer and her brother Carlos also continue to make their stars rise!
With freestyle world champion Lennart Neubauer and foil world champion Justine Lemeteyer, two athletes have also made it to the top who, in their early 20s, will be able to leave their mark on the sport for a long time to come. This certainly includes Johan Søe, even if the Dane did not play a role in the World Championship race this year due to his participation in the Olympics. When he's there, "The Beast" will drive the rest into the ground - and he's only in his early 20s too!
The fact that the same rider, Pierre Mortefon, became world champion in both disciplines despite the separation of foil and fin is particularly impressive: despite the increasingly specialised disciplines, an all-rounder can ride to the top! Winning the double in his debut season underlines his class and consistency: Mortefon "only" won the slalom X in Pozo, but otherwise came second in all (!) other slalom events. Chapeau!
