Plenty of free time for the wave youngsters at the World Cup in Cold Hawaii. Unfortunately, apart from a few fun sessions in light winds, not much was possible and the event ended without a result. This also gave PWA photographer John Carter plenty of time to take some great pictures of Thy National Park in the autumn light. Drone shots of the beaches around Klitmøller, sunsets, Danish idylls in the golden autumn light - the pictures are worth seeing even without the action!
In the meantime, it was the turn of the slalom riders, some of whom had previously undergone extra preparation in a clinic with Denmark's top riders Johan Søe and Marc Paré. On Sunday there was finally enough wind, and both the bay of Klitmøller and Hanstholm were available as spots to choose from. After some back and forth, it was decided to hold the opening races in Klitmøller, where the water was a little less choppy and there was more wind from the inside. The conditions were still borderline with 7 to 11 knots, but eventually there was enough wind to give the starting signal.
After the course was set, the first races of the event began at 2.00 pm. Sacha Fortune won the first elimination in the Foil U21 division ahead of his French compatriot Matthieu Assorin and Anton Richter. In the U17 division, the young Dane Gustav Permin beat off competition from Tycho Smith and Bobbi-Lynn de Jong in Elimination 1.
The next few days look promising for more foil races, and maybe the fin riders will also get on the water. Stay tuned!
