Over the last few days, there were already signs that a big autumn storm would finally come to Cold Hawaii at the end of the PWA Youth World Cup. After a long wait, the conditions then clearly exceeded the forecasts: instead of 1.4 metre waves, a 2.5 metre swell rolled into the bay of Klitmøller on Wednesday morning at 20 to 30 knots - a major challenge for boats and crew. It was decided to move the races to Thisted, where perfect conditions prevailed on the sheltered Limfjord with 18 to 25 knots.
"The result was ten runs full of fantastic action, lots of speed and close duels between the participants," said the organisers happily. The U21 category was won by Anton Richter, who won one race and crossed the finish line in second place three times. Sacha Fortune won twice, but a fourth place prevented him from winning. Marlon Maethner finished in fifth place and Thies Johnsen was tenth.
The podium for the U17 starters was firmly in Bonairean hands, with Storm Nicolai completing a great hat-trick with three wins in a row before Tycho Smith won the final two races. Mario Boekstegers finished in fourth place. The strong wind prevented further foil eliminations, so that the standings remained the same as at the beginning of the week: Sacha Fortune won the U21 category with Anton Richter in third place and Gustav Permin won the U17 classification.
From Thisted, they travelled back to the surf club in Klitmøller, where the award ceremony took place at 4:30 pm in bright sunshine and beautiful winds. "We would like to thank everyone who visited us, who helped us, who worked with us and those who sponsored us," said the organisers. "Many thanks for ten fantastic days to: Cafe Hawgus, Emilienborg, Cold Hawaii Games, AutoQ, DIF, DGI, Good Food To Go, and Thisted Bryghus!"
