For the third time in five years, the national surf league final took place at Lake Dümmer. The surfers were expecting perfect conditions, there was plenty of wind from Friday to Sunday, the sun was shining and the organising Windsurf Club Dümmer (WSCD) and its helpers were able to offer a professional German championship. Thomas Michaelis (President of the DWSV) and Maximilian Fuchs were in charge of the race.
The almost 70 participants travelled from all over Germany, whether from Rostock from the Yachtclub Warnow or from Bavaria from the Regattasurfclub Chiemsee. The Surf-Bundeliga prioritises team spirit. The teams consist of two to four riders, with the two best-placed team members in each race being included in the classification. In perfect weather conditions, 12 races were possible, which according to the organisers is a new record for a three-day national league final.
In fact, it was only in the last of 12 exciting races that it was decided which team would become German champion. First place in the individual classification went to Markus Bouhier. His team from Windsurfclub Jade in Wilhelmshaven also came out on top overall and were crowned German Surf League champions. In addition to Markus Bouhier, the title team from Wilhelmshaven also includes Jenny Bouhier, Lasse Brudek and Fabian Aldinger. The team from Windsurfingclub Hamburg came second in the German championship. Bronze went to the German Windsurfing Club Großenbrode.
In the junior national league, the team from Yachtclub Warnow 1 won in the U15 age group and the Just Windsurf Paderborn 4 team won in the U13 age group. The WSCD e.V. team came a very strong but ungrateful 4th place in the U15 category. "This means that the goal of the Surfclub am Dümmersee youth regatta team has been set: the podium in 2024!" announced the club.
At the same time, we are still looking for young talent: The WSCD offers youth training every Friday afternoon during the season from April to October with licensed and successful trainers. "We support you on your way to learning windsurfing," promises the club. "If you have a basic windsurfing licence, we'll take you all the way to the German Championships!"
The famous Dümmer Open Fun Regatta starts on Sunday, 1 October 2013 with a free choice of equipment. Windsurfing, foil windsurfing and wingsurfing equipment is permitted. A spectacular downwind slalom will be organised. The skippers' meeting is at 10.30 am, the first possible start at 11 am.
