With a total of 70 registrations for the Racer of the Sea X as part of the Surf Festival, the tenth edition of the entry-level regatta has once again set a new record. With 30 young people and 11 female participants, two further records were achieved. "This underlines our goal of being an attractive contact point for these target groups in particular," say the organisers Leon Delle and Oliver-Tom Schliemann happily, seeing their concept confirmed.
Even though the wind was still a long time coming on the first day of racing, the organising team was able to offer an alternative programme, including the opportunity for the young participants to go banana boating. The wind forecast for the second day of competition on Sunday was much more promising. This meant that the mixed foil division could be sent out onto the regatta course in front of the south beach for the first official races at 10.00 am. With the wind picking up, the Finn racers followed shortly afterwards. In order to maximise water time and generate as many races as possible, several races were held back to back, so that a total of nine foil races and five fin races could be held in first-class conditions.
Fabian Wolf dominated the mixed foil division and won all races. Behind him, there was a close battle for second and third place on the podium and therefore also for the prize money. Wolf's chasing pack included Alexander Neubert, Keno Recke, Erik Wehkamp and Gustav Permin, who had travelled from Denmark. Not far behind and also the best woman in the field was Sophia Meyer. The Finns also put on an exciting race. In the end, Jonne Heimann came out on top ahead of Anton Richter, Jens Möller and Tim Wunderlich. As in the previous year, prize money totalling 1001 euros, sponsored by the online surf shop Windlounge, was divided among the winners.
The Girls' Day with Lina Erpenstein, supported by Lina's sponsor Severne, ran in parallel on Saturday. The day began with a yoga session before moving onto the surf skateboard. Despite the light wind, there was still a joint session on the water in the afternoon, where the first "low wind freestyle tricks" were practised under the professional guidance of World Cup winner Lina Erpenstein.
The next Girls Camp is planned for 8 to 11 August. Before that, the Racer of the Sea XI in the Baltic seaside resort of Kellenhusen is on the agenda from 29 - 30 June. In addition to the usual action on the water, there will also be numerous exhibitors on land and food trucks. A supporting programme with live DJs, a communal BBQ and interviews on the event stage will round off the event. As in Fehmarn, prize money totalling €1001 will be provided by the Wind Lounge.
