The 13th edition of the Racer of the Sea recorded a record number of 76 surfers at the surf festival on Fehmarn. There were a particularly large number of rookies and youngsters, with perfect conditions on Friday in particular

The Racer of the Sea celebrated its fifth anniversary with a new record number of participants. A total of 76 surfers took part in the 13th edition of the surf festival on Fehmarn from 30 to 31 May. Among them were once again many young talents with 29 participants under the age of 19; the youngest participant was just 9 years old. Thanks to the support of boot Düsseldorf, all young people were able to take part free of charge, which significantly lowered the entry barrier for young athletes.

The weather conditions were at their best and offered ideal conditions for fair and spectacular racing. With wind speeds of between 15 and 25 knots, the participants in both the foil and fin categories got their money's worth. A total of eleven races were held, six of which were in the foil category and five in the fin category.

Fabian Wolf and Marco Lang unbeatable

Fabian Wolf was the measure of all things in the foil category. With six wins in six races, he gave the competition no chance and confidently secured first place. Alexander Neubert and Vincent Langer followed in second and third place, with the latter narrowly beating Lars Poggemann thanks to the tie-break rule.

In the U19 foil category, Erik Wehkamp came out on top ahead of Tom Franke and Gustav Permin from Denmark. Gustav Grünbaum triumphed in the U16 category ahead of Julian Ahrens and Moritz Meister. In the U19 fin category, Jesper Mo Thomsen topped the podium, followed by Maximilian Damm and Hannes König.

In the Fin category, former PWA pro Marco Lang showed that he is still one of the fastest slalom racers and confidently secured first place. Justus Schott and Leo Richter followed in second and third place. Jesper Mo Thomsen was the best fin slalom rider in the U19 classification, followed by Maximilian Damm and Hannes König. The best U16 rider with an excellent fourth place in the overall standings was Mika Henning, who finished ahead of Victor Schulz Jacobsen and Tom Bruch. The best lady was Charly Nebel, Martin Henning was honoured as best rookie.

Lotte Grünbaum and Charly Nebel best ladies

The relatively high level of female participation was also pleasing. After all, 10 per cent of the participants were women. Lotte Grünbaum won the women's foil category ahead of Jule Kiel and Lena Schmäh. Charly Nebel came out on top in the fin category.

The Racer of the Sea has established itself as an integral part of the surf festival and will take place again in cooperation in 2026. The next Racer of the Sea will take place from 23 to 24 August in Kellenhusen. There, too, all participants under the age of 19 can compete free of charge.
