A whopping 23 races crossed the finish line at the Racer of the Sea and the Winger of the Sea at the season opener. The joint event as part of the Surf Opening on Lake Neusiedl in Austria was also the international premiere of the everyman regattas. And what usually works wonderfully on the Baltic Sea was also very well received by the Austrian riders and spectators. "There were many firsts for us at this event; the first time Racer & Winger of the Sea was held abroad, the first time we were on board at the famous Surf Opening on Lake Neusiedl and the first time we collaborated with KGP-Events, the organiser of the Surf Opening," said Oliver Tom Schliemann and Leon Delle, the two brains behind the Racer & Winger of the Sea. "This definitely has the potential to be repeated!"

Max Hieber and Clemens Siraki win
In bright sunshine and winds of around 12-14 knots, windsurfers and wingfoilers took to the water in two separate fields. "Among the windsurfers, there was quickly a neck-and-neck duel for the day's victory between the Austrians Max Hieber and Laurenz Wesendorfer, who led the standings after four races on the first day," write the organisers in their post-event report. After a further four races on day two, the two rivals were tied on points, with the tie-break deciding in favour of Max Hieber as the winner of the Racer of the Sea. Chris Sammer took third place.
Clemens Siraki won seven out of nine races in the wingfoilers on the first day, and even in slightly stronger winds on day two he was hard to beat. "It was exciting again on the last day of the event for second and third place on the podium. Simon Hammerschmied took second place in the overall standings and was also the best U-19 and rookie, followed by Luis Böhm in third place overall. In the women's classification, Zoe Marie Schönwetter came out on top with an excellent sixth place in the overall classification ahead of Sophia Lang, who came eighth in the overall classification," summarised the organisers.
Chilli, raffle and prize money
In addition to the award ceremonies on the Ö3 event stage and the 10001 euros in prize money, there were also plenty of highlights off the water with the legendary "Podo-Style-Chili" together with the new Corona 0.0% and the raffle, in which all participants received a prize. The windsurfers will continue next weekend at the tenth edition of the Racer of the Sea, which will be held at the surf festival on Fehmarn from 10 to 12 May. Anyone who has not yet registered can do so until 10 May.
