The regatta format that is particularly popular with newcomers Racer of the Sea (ROTS) has developed into one of the most popular slalom windsurfing regattas in Germany in recent years. Now the ROTS will be held as part of the famous Surf Openings Lake Neusiedl for the first time outside Germany - from the 3-5 May 2024 on Lake Neusiedl.
The 1001grad Events team behind the Racer of the Sea and Winger of the Sea had previously limited its events to the Baltic Sea. The main focus here was on selecting a beginner-friendly area. "We have often been asked by our friends and acquaintances from the southern region when we would finally be able to organise an event in their area. Now, with the organisers of the Surf Opening on Lake Neusiedl (KGP Events GmbH), we have finally found a partner who is a perfect fit for our events and with whom it is possible to realise the desired framework conditions that characterise our events." the two initiators Oliver Tom Schliemann and Leon Delle are delighted about the new co-operation.
The ROTS on Lake Neusiedl will therefore be a true original. This includes not only the same race crew, but above all aspects such as simple procedures on site, no material restrictions, no requirement for a registered sail number or club membership and free participation for young people under 19. There will also be the classic BBQ on Saturday evening and the popular raffle.
The event can be started either in the "Fin only" division or (provided the water depth allows it) in the "Mixed Fin & Foil" division. The Surf Opening has already hosted the PWA World Cup and the Freestyle Pro Tour several times in the past - now the ROTS is a real hands-on format for all windsurfing fans. In addition to the sporting highlights in windsurfing and beach volleyball, the Surf Opening will once again feature a colourful supporting programme with a family beach, catering and evening parties with live DJs: "We have always had close ties to windsurfing and Lake Neusiedl is home to numerous water sports enthusiasts. Having hosted many professional competitions in the past, we are now delighted to be able to offer the Racer of the Sea, which appeals to an extremely broad target group and especially to competition beginners", reports Mike Piechura from KGP Events.
As a special highlight, there will be prize money totalling 1001 euros at the Racer of the Sea as part of the Surf Opening Neusiedler See, as at all other Racer of the Sea events. For all newcomers to the regatta, the Racer of the Sea team will also be organising an Academy on the Friday before the regatta. During the academy, all important aspects of regatta surfing will be explained in a theoretical part. This will be followed by an equipment tuning session. Your equipment will be perfectly adjusted and you will receive helpful tips on tuning and equipment selection. You can register now HERE.
