Enrico Marotti won the slalom in Pozo
Nine days of action on Gran Canaria! Slalom and wave, women, men, juniors - there was a lot going on in Pozo last week. Ben Proffitt looks back at the highlights of the various disciplines at this year's Pozo World Cup. New now: the men's slalom races

Slalom men

After 14 years, the slalom returned to Pozo! Iconic images of Dunkerbeck, Albeau, Buzianis and co. once battling board to board for the buoys in the Pozo chop played in the mind's eye. The comeback also offered spectacular races, over which the big question always hovered: foil or fin? Some riders and - if you believe the impression from the comments next to the livestream - many fans wanted the Finn to make a comeback, after there had been almost exclusively foil races in recent years. But even in Pozo's hack, the foil proved to be the better choice in many cases. Faster in the gybe, less contact with the chop, but often on the edge of control - the races were spectacular to watch and offered plenty of excitement, action and drama. Jordy Vonk actually won one elimination on the Finn, otherwise the foils were in front. Nico Prien took victory in the last elimination, while Enrico Marotti had no way past him in the overall standings. Watch the spectacular video by Ben Proffitt!

Slalom Ladies

Were these the closest and most exciting slalom races in history?
Nobody in Pozo had expected such a dramatic duel between the systems (fin vs. foil). Most of the women started the competition on the fin to be on the safe side in the rough conditions, but then slowly felt their way towards the foil.
Foil expert Blanca Alabau was at the top of the podium at the end of the three days of competition, closely followed by Sarah-Quita Offringa, who contested every race on the fin. The Windsurfing.tv recap features lots of thrilling footage and emotional interviews from the three days of competition
Take a look.
We will continue with the other disciplines over the next few days.
