The iQFoilers were divided into the gold and silver fleets yesterday at the World Championship of the Olympic sailing classes off The Hague - the first intermediate step on the way to the final rankings. While the conditions looked promising before the start, they turned out to be extremely challenging on the water - changing winds, big waves and still plenty of current. Men and women were able to race five races each.
Things did not go well for Theresa Steinlein, who had previously shown a strong performance with eleventh place and was on course for the Olympics. Steinlein finished 29th, 40th, 37th, 18th and 36th and fell to 27th place in the overall rankings. Great Britain's Emma Wilson is still at the top, now ahead of the two Israelis Shahar Tibi and Katy Spychakov. Alisa Engelmann and Lena Erdil are close together in 45th and 47th place, Helena Wanser is 70th.
Sebastian Kördel, on the other hand, was able to prove his impressive consistency even in the difficult conditions. Although he did not manage another victory, he was almost always at the front with places 3, 6, 3, 19 and 7. As a result, he overtook Luuc Van Opzeeland and is now in second place. European champion Nicolo Renna is still at the top, having crossed the finish line first twice yesterday. Fabian Wolf slipped down to 38th place, he was unable to finish a run, while Jonne Heimann is stable in 65th place.
Further races in the Gold and Silver Fleet are scheduled for today, before the top ten drivers head into the Medal Races on Saturday. If you want to follow the World Championship action live in front of The Hague, the iQFoil races will be broadcast live today from 11:00 to 13:35 and on Saturday from 14:00 to 17:45. on the Youtube channel of World Sailing be transferred.
