"Miles and Lines" is the "adventure podcast" from Delius Klasing Verlag, which also publishes E surf magazine. Writer and globetrotter Timm Kruse meets authors and talks to them about their adventures, destinations and travels. In the latest episode, which you can now listen to on all popular platforms, surf editor Manuel Vogel is a guest.
Manuel Vogel learnt to windsurf as a child, as his father had opened a surf school in Croatia. Manuel turned his hobby into a profession: 20 years ago, he became part of the surf test team and is now responsible for riding technique and product tests as well as all topics relating to wingfoiling. In the podcast, he explains that it is perfectly possible to cover kilometres surfing and tells us about extreme touring surfer Jono Dunnett and his current mission to surf around Japan.
Manuel also gives tips for anyone who wants to learn windsurfing themselves. To explain his favourite sport "from the ground up", Manuel has published the book Simply learn to windsurf written. Here he explains technical terms, connections, set-up and riding technique. According to Manuel, the most common problem for beginners and returners is a board that is too small. That's why his most important buying tip is: a big board! He also explains that inflatable boards can also be an alternative for beginners.
