The first phase of the popular Dunkerbeck Speed Challenge runs from 1 April to 31 May this year. The last phase of the 2023 Challenge attracted almost 900 entries on gps-speedsurf.com. Will the virtual speed series crack the magic mark of 1000 participants this year?

The Dunkerbeck Speed Challenge offers windsurfers around the world the opportunity to compare their speed virtually. This year's tour once again consists of three online events spread throughout the year.
The first stage of the Gran Canaria Dunkerbeck Speed Challenge will take place from 1 April to 31 May 2024. This will be followed by the summer edition from 1 July to 31 August 2024 and finally the third challenge from 1 October to 30 November 2024.

Who can take part?

The Dunkerbeck Speed Challenge is looking for the fastest speeds over 250 metres with fin, foil or wing according to the standards of www.gps-speedsurfing.com. The intention behind the events and the tour is to spice up freeride windsurfing sessions - regardless of whether you are new to the speed surfing game or have been at it for a while. This year, thanks to the new partner WATERSPEED APP (for Apple Watch) even easier. This means that a special GPS device is great, but no longer absolutely necessary.

Not only can you compare your sessions with friends, but you can also see the speeds of other riders (at the same spot, on the same day or on a different day) and expand the local community, as a conversation about equipment, technique or spots may arise next time. Surf schools, clubs or associations can advertise their spots and gain popularity through quick or numerous entries from their spots.

Many categories - many opportunities

The online format offers a timeframe for all seasons, giving riders from all over the world the best chance to challenge their personal speed record in perfect conditions. Each period will have its own winners and rankings based on the entries on www.gps-speedsurfing.com, www.gps-foilsurfing.com and www.gps-wingfoiling.com.
The following classes will be judged and honoured in windsurfing:

  • OPEN Male & Female
  • Youth (0-10 years)
  • Junior (11-14 years)
  • Junior Plus (15-18 years)
  • Grand Master (51-60 years)
  • Super Master (61-70 years)
  • Ultimate Master (71-99)
