Björn Dunkerbeck wants to encourage more participants than ever before to take part in the third phase of the Speed Challenge.
The Dunkerbeck Speed Challenge enters its third and final phase from 1 October to 30 November 2026. The aim: to attract more participants than ever before.

The third and final phase of the Dunkerbeck Speed Challenge 2026 runs from 1 October to 30 November. With the first two phases now complete, speed surfers worldwide have one last chance to improve their position in this year’s overall rankings. The format remains unchanged: each participant can ride at their favourite spot, record their GPS data and upload it. The fastest average speed over 250 metres counts towards the ranking. The challenge is open to all three disciplines – fin, foil and wing. Participants compete solely on the basis of their GPS data, which is uploaded to the respective platforms: GPS-Speedsurfing.com, GPS-Foilsurfing.com and GPS-Wingfoiling.com. The final phase will determine the 2026 annual rankings.

Three disciplines in a global comparison

The challenge is divided into three separate rankings. Finn sailors use GPS-Speedsurfing.com for their uploads, foilers use GPS-Foilsurfing.com and wingfoilers use GPS-Wingfoiling.com. Each discipline maintains its own ranking, based on the highest average speed recorded over 250 metres. Once uploaded, the results automatically appear in the relevant ranking. The third phase offers a chance particularly to those riders who were unable to reach their full potential in the first two periods. Any improvement can change a rider’s position in the overall rankings.

Björn Dunkerbeck appeals directly to the community. “We need your help to make our sport grow,” he says. The challenge is an opportunity for everyone who loves speedsailing to become part of the movement. Dunkerbeck emphasises the importance of every single participant: “Every new rider makes our community stronger – and a stronger community helps us build more support for our sport and our future.” He urges participants to sign up, go sailing and share the Challenge with friends. The third phase is set to be the biggest yet. The focus is not just on top speeds, but on broad participation. Dunkerbeck concludes with a direct appeal: “You can make a difference. Let’s make ‘The Third’ our biggest event yet. See you on the water!”
