British windsurfing legend Farrel O'Shea passed away suddenly in spring, having helped shape the speed scene for many years. His clothing and accessories label O'Shea could be seen at many spots around the world. In his honour, his friend and "Prince of Speed" Principe Baldini created the Farrel Cup, which was held in La Palme at the weekend.
All disciplines took part in the Farrel Cup, with the best average speed over 500 metres being judged. There was no way around former champion Antoine Albeau: with 45.1 knots on the fin and 37.6 knots on the foil, he won both classifications. He was followed by Cedric Bordes (43.7 knots/36.1 knots), while third place went to Vincent Valkenaers on the fin (43.62 knots) and Cyril Evrard on the foil (35.83 knots). Heidi Ulrich was the best lady on the fin with 38.04 knots.
Klaus Küppenbender (36.92 knots) and Rainer Motloch (32.11 knots) were at the start from Germany. Patrice Imart won the kitesurfing category, while Cyril Michel was the only starter on the kitefoil.
