Due to the strong wind forecast for Sunday, a "wave alert" was issued 24 hours in advance. Some models indicated well over 30 knots, too much for the California Windsurf Cup and the IFCA Foil World Championshipjust right for wave riding. 21 starters spontaneously travelled to St. Peter-Ording, but unfortunately the conditions on the day of the contest turned out to be weaker than originally forecast. However, with wind forces of five to six, a complete wave elimination could still be held - even without an entry fee thanks to sponsor Soöruz. In addition to young wave surfers, some World Cup pros also attended.
Florian Jung faced Nick Spangenberg, Anton Richter and Henri Kolberg in the final. Jung won the wave elimination with better jumps and wave rides. Last year's winner of the California Windsurf Cup in the wave discipline, Anton Richter, followed in second place. Henri Kolberg took third place, pushing Nick Spangenberg into fourth place
Emma Miron won the women's event ahead of her sister Frida Miron. Nadja Jablonski followed in third place. In the Youth U21 category, Anton Richter dominated with his second place in the overall standings. He finished ahead of his older brother Leo Richter. Third place in the Youth U21 category was shared by Erik Wehkamp and Hannes Gobisch.
"It is important to maintain wave riding as a contest discipline," emphasised Matthias Regber from Choppy Water GmbH, which organises the California Windsurf Cup. "There are only a maximum of two or three opportunities a year to raise the wave alarm. That's why we didn't want to miss this opportunity. The positive feedback and the successful wave elimination confirm our efforts."
