The July issue of surf is here and is dedicated to the next generation: the biggest talents, boards and sails for kids and how to motivate the next generation! We have also extensively tested masts, show you spots on Crete and in Norway and introduce you to the "prince" of speed surfing!

"Kids aren't interested in windsurfing anymore, they just hang out on TikTok and Insta" is something you hear from time to time from people who no longer trust young people to do anything, especially not to make an effort or achieve something without being rewarded with followers or likes.

Bullshit! - to stay with the slang. It feels like every generation of young people has been labelled as good-for-nothings and lazybones by their parents. But let's let the facts speak for themselves: Christian Winderlich from the Norderney surf school has around 125 children and young people at his school during the high season - every week! So windsurfing can't be that unattractive after all. And if you take a closer look around the spots, you will see numerous youngsters of the next generation on the water.

However, and this should not be overlooked, children who do not have windsurfing parents find it much more difficult to get into windsurfing. With a skateboard, you can use the next kerb outside your front door to do your first tricks, but the effort required to get started in windsurfing is much higher - and more expensive. That's also part of the truth. However, the new iPhone doesn't fall from the sky.

In the July issue of surf, we introduce you to kids who have already come a long way with the passion and support of their parents, show you ways in which your children can learn quickly and without frustration and show you boards that guarantee quick learning progress for kids and offer long-lasting fun even with advanced manoeuvres. To do this, we had eight complete rigs scrutinised by our junior test crew. There are big differences here in terms of performance, range of use and, of course, price. When buying, you should always bear in mind that nothing sells better on the second-hand market than children's equipment.

"Keep at it until you're really gliding! Because flying over the water is the best thing ever!" We have nothing to add to what nine-year-old Melli says.

Also in the July issue of surf:

  • Test masts: How much influence do different masts have on the handling characteristics of a sail? We tested it in practice and in the lab
  • Who are the Maethner brothers? Leon and Marlon are "surf guys" through and through
  • Jeri - past and present: The story of the cult spot Jericoacoara began over 20 years ago. What has become of it and what does its discoverer Fabio Nobre actually do?

  • Spot Guide Crete West: If you are mobile and want to discover something new, the west of Crete is the right place for you
