From 15 to 21 April 2025, the European Championships of the Techno 293 and T293Plus windsurfing classes took place on the beaches of Ostia near Rome. 274 young athletes from 16 nations came together at the event organised by the Lega Navale Italiana Ostia to compete for the continental titles in various age categories. The championships were characterised by extreme weather conditions.

The first few days of the competition presented enormous challenges. Massive swell and strong winds forced the organisers to completely cancel the races on Tuesday and Wednesday. When the weather window finally opened, 10 to 11 races per class could be held in just three days, in still challenging conditions.

Exciting duels in all age groups

The various divisions saw thrilling battles for the podium places. In the U13 class, Hungary's Antal Körtvélyesi came out on top and secured overall victory. Olivia Sanchez Moral from Spain took the title in the girls' U15 category. In the male U15 competition, Evangelos Kyriazakos from Greece dominated the races and took a convincing victory.

There were also exciting decisions in the Techno 293 youth class U17. Spain's Martina Bárbara Tor triumphed in the girls' category. In the male U17 classification, the Greek participants fought an intense battle, from which Pavlos Kallitsis ultimately emerged victorious. In the combined overall standings of the Techno 293 Plus (U19 and O19), Teresa Medde from Italy won the women's competition and Panagiotis Ioannou from Greece won the men's competition.

Looking ahead: Techno 293 World Championships in Wales

Italy, Greece, Spain, Hungary and Turkey had several athletes on the podium, demonstrating the strength of their young talent programmes. There were no German athletes at the European Championships. The focus is now turning to the next major event: the World Championships for the Techno 293 and T293Plus classes will take place in Pwllheli, Wales, from 16 to 23 August 2025. Registration for this highlight of the international techno calendar is already open.
