The countdown is on: The Citroën Windsurf World Cup 2025 is in the starting blocks - and with it the current leader of the Foil Slalom World Tour, Matteo Iachino. In a brief interview, the Italian talks about his expectations ahead of the penultimate stop on the tour, his special relationship with Sylt and a project close to his heart in Cape Verde.

The start of the Citroën Windsurf World Cup 2025 is just a few days away. Registration takes place tomorrow (26 September) and the event runs until 5 October - although the last official day of competition is on 4 October. Before the start of the biggest windsurfing event of the year, we managed to catch up with Italian Matteo Iachino, who is currently leading the foil slalom world rankings, for a short interview.

Hey Matteo, it's almost time for Sylt to begin... how are you feeling as the world leader ahead of the penultimate stop of the season?

I feel good. I've been in this position before and I know that I just have to do my best - as if it was the first race of the year. The equipment feels good and I had a good preparation before the event.

You've finished second on Sylt three times since 2019 - how do you like the competition on Sylt overall?

I normally like Sylt. The conditions are rough and tricky and I like it. It's a difficult competition because it's really long and it's hard to stay focussed for almost two weeks, but I'm ready for it.

What was it like to get back on the foil after a summer on the fin? And what have you done since the last competition in Tenerife?

It actually felt quite easy. As I said, the equipment feels very good and that makes it much easier. After Tenerife, I relaxed a bit, trained on the foil for a fortnight to get back in the air for a few hours. Then I flew to Cape Verde to support a really nice project on the island of Maio, growing the local community in the ocean and getting lots of kids surfing. I also surfed quite a lot myself. Now I've been getting my stuff ready again for almost two weeks and I'm ready to head north.

Thank you, Matteo. Good luck for the event.
