The contrast in tasks within the surf test team has probably never been greater than in recent weeks. At the beginning of February, while one member of the team travelled to the Caribbean with "light" hand luggage consisting of 15 board bags stuffed to the brim, a colleague who had been left behind surfed enduringly in the icy cold waters of the Baltic Sea with a whole bag full of neoprene gloves. What did the poor chap do, you may ask, but that's the way it is sometimes. Someone has to do the job.
Nevertheless, the test job on the distant Caribbean island of Tobago is by no means a pleasure tax for the colleagues. The programme includes tests of boards, sails and numerous accessories as well as service topics and tutorials for the next issues - including this one. In addition to the tests, all products are not only inspected and measured, but all important details are photographed and filmed. Not a breath of wind is left unused for the practical test and during the breaks, instead of sipping a cocktail with relish, the results and subjective impressions that have just been gathered are noted down or spoken into the mobile phone. In the evening, the team meets again for a joint discussion of the day and a colleague writes the test blog on the website. Here you can read all the experiences, anecdotes and misadventures of the testers once again and get an in-depth insight into the big freeride test.
However, none of the testers have ever complained, neither from the tropical nor the permafrost team. At the end of the day, they all have the inner motivation to deliver independent, detailed and multi-validated test results for you and to prepare them as well as possible for the magazine and the website. Specifically, in the new issue you can look forward to the exciting test of the Freemove 6.0 sails, the ultimate all-rounders, and at the same time find out which gloves are warm and comfortable in the current water temperatures. There's also a comprehensive spot guide from Greece, Jason Polakow talks about his life as a windsurfing pensioner, we show you the best storm pictures of the winter and much more!
