After a break of several years, the California Windsurf Cup returned to the Baltic Sea resort of Kühlungsborn. The season of the German top series was opened over the long weekend at the new location on the pier. Fabi Wolf and Vincent Langer delivered the expected duel at the top. Wolf triumphed with the ideal score of 1.4 points ahead of Langer, who achieved 2.7 points. However, the wind did not make it easy for the regatta organisers. Friday and Sunday were completely calm, meaning that only three races could be organised on Saturday. In addition to the North One Hour, three downwind slaloms were held with the foil
Fabi Wolf dominated two of the three races and only had to settle for second place in the last race. He was able to cancel out this result, giving him an almost flawless record. Vincent Langer, multiple German, European and world champion, finished in second place twice, but won the last race. "Kühlungsborn was a great start to the season for me. I'm delighted that the Windsurf Cup is being held here again. It's even better when you can win straight away. My equipment and trim were perfect. That's why I'm looking forward to the next tour stops," says Fabian Wolf after his victory. Lars Poggemann completed the podium with two third places and one fifth place. Keno Recke came out on top with 8.0 points, just ahead of Alexander Neubert, who scored 9.0 points.
LVM Versicherung supports up-and-coming German windsurfers with the LVM Youngster Trophy. At each California Windsurf Cup, the best three Youth U21s receive prize money totalling 1,000 euros. Gustav Grünbaum secured 500 euros as the first-placed Youth U21. The overall sixth of the event was delighted with the prize money. Mika Henning rode to seventh place in the overall standings and received 300 euros as runner-up in the junior classification. Julian Ahrens completed the Youth podium in ninth place overall and collected 200 euros in prize money.
The return of the legendary North One Hour format after more than 25 years was a special highlight. However, the offshore wind direction and low strength prevented the Fin Slalom discipline from starting and only the foilers were able to compete. In addition, the duration was shortened to half an hour. Fabian Wolf was also right at the front in the One Hour, leading from the start and picking up some speed at the end to control the field with confidence. Vincent Langer, on the other hand, didn't get off to a good start and had to work his way forwards through the field. Shortly before the finish, he then fought an exciting duel with Meno Büchler and was also able to take second place in the end.
Kühlungsborn and Choppy Water GmbH have signed a long-term cooperation agreement. The California Windsurf Cup will thus be permanently established as an event highlight in the Baltic seaside resort. The exact date for 2027 will be announced shortly. The premiere at the new location on the pier impressed organisers and participants alike. The pier proved to be the perfect natural grandstand for the spectators, while the event area offered optimal conditions for the supporting programme, according to the organisers.
