As there are now only longboard regattas on Lake Starnberg and Lake Chiemsee in southern Germany, the Austrian class association offered three strong events for joint races on the Windsurfer LT.

Achensee 29/30 June 2024: Thomas Wallner wins, Frank Spöttel in second place

Seven Germans and three Austrians competed on the Windsurfer LT, with four races on the first day in very high summer temperatures and beautiful thermals from the south. Thomas Wallner (AUT) and Frank Spöttel fought it out at the top, with Bernd Hachleitner (AUT) and Harry Schönmüller battling it out for bronze.

The German-Austrian duels continued the next day in a strong northerly wind. Wallner landed four first places, Hachleitner also ensured the Austrian triumph with third places. The almost 84-year-old Heinz Häußler from Munich was also back at the start, battling it out with 14-year-old Chris Bierwag for seventh place. With second place for Spöttel and fourth place for Schönmüller, the two Germans should make a good leap forward in the windsurfing LT rankings.

Windsurfing Austria President Christian Bratsch deserves a lot of praise, as the regatta organiser he not only sent the windsurfers, but also the Formula Windsurfing, foil surfers and fin slalom pilots onto the water with almost 25 races over two days, thus achieving top performances.

Austria offers action for longboards, and Lake Traunsee shone with good wind and eight races. The Windsurf Club Ebensee managed to attract 21 riders on the Windsurfer LT at the end of August, with local Thomas Wallner mobilising his entire family. Germany was also represented with ten LT riders, including Frank Spöttel and Harry Schönmüller from Windsurfing Club Starnberger See alongside the team from RSC Chiemsee. With an identical result to Achensee, second and third place behind winner Thomas Wallner, they secured more points in the DWSV rankings.

Wallersee 7/8 September: Spöttel wins, second place goes to South Tyrol, Harry Schönmüller comes third

With 16 participants, the third Windsurfer LT regatta in Austria, this time on Lake Wallersee in the Salzkammergut, was also well attended. As has already been shown at Achensee and Traunsee, the two cracks from WCST are subscribed to the podium. Christian Bratsch, the active president of Windsurfing Austria, and his crew were only able to conjure up a total of four races on the water on the first day of racing in midsummer weather, but managed to achieve the necessary score for the rankings. This time, the successful WCST duo was broken up by Ivan Oprandi (Lake Kaltern), who took second place between Spöttel (1st) and Schönmüller (3rd).
