From 8 to 10 August 2025, Wilhelmshaven will host the first DSV-recognised International German Championship (IDM) in the windsurfing LT class. It is currently possible to register at discounted rates.

Three-time German champion Lasse Brudek is delighted to be able to host the IDM at his home spot: "After we (Windsurfing Club Jade) successfully organised the Lower Saxony state championships for the "LTs" in previous years, this year we're taking it up a notch - we're delighted that the event will be the official national highlight of the class."

As required for a championship, the IDM takes place over three competition days and therefore starts on Friday. The date in August is particularly favourable for young participants who would otherwise have to take time off school.

The event location offers ideal conditions for a successful regatta: Lake Banter is large enough to hold all the races required for a championship. Whether course racing, slalom or marathon - all courses can be set and surfed. Depending on the wind conditions, a freestyle competition can also be organised. A spacious meadow area is available for rigging and there will also be plenty to eat and drink: on Friday and Saturday, participants can look forward to a barbecue and social get-together where they can review the day's experiences in a relaxed atmosphere. Of course, a hearty breakfast will also be provided! Those who still haven't had enough after the races on Lake Banter can, depending on the tide, take the short jump over the dyke and do a few more laps on the Jade Bay.

For those travelling with a camper or motorhome, there is the option of parking directly at the spot, and there is also a hotel in the immediate vicinity. Although Wilhelmshaven as the venue means a longer journey for some, its proximity to the Netherlands guarantees an international field of competitors. But no journey is too far: even two participants from Australia have already registered!
