Windsurfing films: "Life on Waves" - new film with Sarah Hauser
"Life on Waves" continues the story that began with "Girl on Wave": Sarah Hauser, big wave surfer and personal trainer to many Maui pros, is shown as a woman in the male domain on Maui.

Sarah Hauser has been a top rider and trainer for stars such as Marcilio Browne, Levi Siver and Robby Swift known. The new film "Life on Waves" focuses on her life as a professional water sportswoman and follows on from its globally released predecessor "Girl on Wave". Director Steven B. Esparza accompanies Hauser to some of the most challenging spots in the world. The film shows her development in windsurfing and big wave surfing, documents sporting successes and personal challenges off the water. Hauser is recognised as one of the leading voices for women in extreme watersports and has broken barriers in a male-dominated discipline.

The premiere will take place on 26 March 2026 at 7 pm in the McCoy Studio Theatre of the Maui Arts & Cultural Centre. The US cinema release will follow in April 2026.

"Life on Waves" focuses on Hauser's uncompromising pursuit of further development. The film documents her approach to extreme conditions and shows how she behaves in critical situations. Esparza focuses on the mental component behind the spectacular manoeuvres. The camera captures moments in which Hauser pushes herself to her limits and makes decisions that determine success or failure. The film also sheds light on preparing for big waves, training and analysing conditions. Hauser talks about courage, resilience and the importance of inclusion in sport. Her work inspires a new generation of female athletes who also want to prove themselves in extreme disciplines.

From "Girl on Wave" to "Life on Waves"

The first film "Girl on Wave" was already very successful and showed Sarah Hauser in the full range of her work. "Life on Waves" continues this narrative and goes deeper into her current phase as an athlete. While its predecessor highlighted the foundations of her career, the new film shows the reality of an established professional water sportswoman. Esparza uses continuity to visualise developments and document changes in Hauser's approach. The sequel allows a comparison between different career phases and illustrates how priorities and goals shift over time.
