Bernd Flessner is still a regular at the World Cup on Sylt long after the end of his active career. This year, he is promoting the windsurfing and water sports programmes at the clubs as a Robinson brand ambassador. There you can also get out on the water with Flessi.

You're here every year, but the clients are a little different. What exactly does it mean to be a brand ambassador for Robinson?

I've been working with Robinson since 2011. I took over the surf camps from Robby Naish back then - that was the beginning and a lot has developed over the years. As a brand ambassador, I am active in many areas, especially in the water sports department. It's about personnel, purchasing equipment, further training and improvements at our centres. There are also various surf camps that we organise. I now also work with the HR department to recruit new talent. I also support the marketing department, advising on campaigns, the right naming and framing so that windsurfers also feel addressed.

And people can still book camps directly with you?

Exactly. We have a big camp twice a year in Soma Bay. Next year there will also be a foil camp in Cyprus for the first time. There are many clubs with good conditions and plenty of equipment. There is also high-quality hospitality in the premium segment. In the summer I'm spending four weeks on Cos - I give one-to-one lessons there, because you can achieve a lot in 1:1 training. The special thing is: I ride close behind the people during training and give tips directly while they are surfing - so they can put them into practice straight away.

But you are also travelling with your lecture "Surf the waves of my life", right?

Yes, that's exactly what companies book me for. It's about resilience - the balance between tension and relaxation. On the one hand, being successful, on the other hand, being well in life. As a professional athlete, I know what I'm talking about - we were very one-sided for a long time. I pass on these insights from 26 years of professional sport, supplemented by my experience with companies.

Sounds like you're travelling a lot. How often are you still at home on Norderney?

I'm still there a lot in between, but in total I spend about half a year travelling to the various clubs!

Thank you and good luck!
