Women in the World Cup: What is the "Navela" project? Three questions for Sarah-Quita OffringaPhoto: Carter/pwaworldtour.com
The "Navela" project aims to tell the stories of professional female windsurfers, and Sarah-Quita Offringa is one of the people behind it
Showing the women in the Wave World Cup and telling their stories is the aim of the "Navela" video project. The first teasers have been available on Instagram for a few days now, and Sarah-Quita Offringa and Pauline Katz are the main people behind the project. They told us what the idea is and where they want to go with the project!

What is the idea behind your project "Navela"?

Through "Navela" we want to highlight all the different women competing on the wave world tour. Everyone has a different background, has to deal with their own challenges, but we’re all flying around the world to compete at the different stops on tour! We have such great personalities on tour, and we hope by sharing our story to inspire other people to go out there and follow their dreams. For the moment we want to follow the different tour stops to tell the unfolding story of the title race, and at the same time deal with specific topics that the women are dealing with to give more insight into our world. What you will also see is that, even though we are competing, it’s actually a cool vibe between the women.

We have great personalities on the tour! We want to inspire other people to follow their dreams by sharing our stories!"

Who is involved in "Navela"?

Pauline Katz and I just started when we were in Chile. We had already been talking about it when we were in Maui, and during the Chile event we just said "Let’s go for it!" Rafa, the guy that makes the most amazing reels for all of us during the canaries events is our videographer and editor! Besides that, we are looking for sponsors for different episodes. The Chile episode is almost done! Now we’re looking for sponsors for the two episodes from Gran Canaria and Tenerife. So if you’re interested in supporting this women’s series, please reach out ! We think it’s so important to share the story of these women on tour, so others can relate to them!

What content can we look forward to?

For the moment we are sticking to covering four events on tour as it is the easiest, logistically and financially: Chile, Gran Canaria, Tenerife and Hawaii. The episodes will come out some weeks after the main event has been completed. Ideally we would like to make individual episodes of each of the women following the tour, but this will require much more financial support, so for now we try to take it step by step and start with some collective episodes that tell the story of the event and the women involved.

How do you like this article?

That sounds exciting, we're looking forward to it! Good luck!

Tobi is our digital man, he looks after the surf website and social media channels and gets on everyone's nerves every morning by asking for more pictures and videos. His surfing CV includes all the famous choppy water spots: As a teenager, he went from his home in Münsterland to the Ijsselmeer or the Brouwersdam, and during his civilian service on Sylt, after countless washes on the west side, the Königshafen became his preferred spot. After studying in Kiel and Heidkate, he was supposed to go to Hamburg “only for a short time”, but this short time has lasted for over ten years and has made him a “weekend warrior”. He goes on tour with his family and camper van as often as possible, often to the Baltic Sea, SPO or Denmark, but also likes to go to Finland, Sweden or Sardinia.
