In the days leading up to the start of the "Playa Surf CBbC Hotel Aloha Classic Grand Final", as the somewhat unwieldy official name goes, Hookipa was firing on all cylinders. Just in time for the start of the contest period, things quietened down so that the world elite have mainly been sticking stickers and visiting the surf shops on Maui. However, the forecasts promise better and better conditions over the next few days, so Head Judge Boujmaa Gouillol has given the go-ahead.
This Thursday at 9.00 a.m. local time, the opening ceremony is scheduled to start, followed by the skippers meeting and the first possible start at 11.00 a.m.. Maui is exactly 12 hours later than Germany, so it will be exciting for most fans in Europe at 23:00. The event can be held on five consecutive days - so on Monday we will know who the new wave world champions are.
Depending on the wave size, there are two possible options for today's start: Either the main fields will start directly, where the Challenger Rounds of the unseeded riders will take place first. It is also possible that the masters and juniors will be sent out onto the water first, possibly also during the breaks of the pros.
There will also be a live stream from Hookipa on three days, depending on the conditions.
You can find out when it starts and what the conditions are on the IWT and PWA social media accounts. The livestream is available on the IWT website and on YouTube.

"Swift Water Sports is a NeilPryde and JP rental and dealer that shares its base with North Shore Maui Rent a Car, very close to Kanaha for easy gear changes if needed! We're starting with a small area so we have as much exciting new gear available as possible," Robby continued. "We only have the best pro-level equipment on offer.
