The World Cup Fiji 2023 was one for the history books. There was breathtaking action and quite a lot of small parts. You can watch the best crashes here.

Dream aerial and hellish wash - nowhere are these two things closer together than at the legendary Break Kurukuru, also known as Cloudbreak. Virtually all the top riders who were there felt this. Paul Van Bellen has published a 12-minute clip on his YouTube channel with unedited original footage of the World Cup Fiji and compiled the toughest exits. In the video, you can see very clearly how fast the wave often runs in Cloudbreak and the force behind the breakers. Where the wave hits the shallow reef, the spray sprays metres into the air, which is no walk in the park for the athletes. In any case, the jet ski crew had their hands full getting riders and equipment, or the remains of the equipment, back out into the line-up.

We can only hope that this is not the last event that IWT and PWA will organise together in Fiji.
