Lots of wind, but hardly any waves: Pozo didn't show its best side on Saturday either. At the start of the day, brothers Dennis (10) and Yannik Kolb Gonzales (12) from Cadiz took to the water in the U13 Sail-Off. Both were already jumping loops and were tied on points in the U15 classification, so they were now allowed back on the water. Unfortunately, it was not clear at the end which of the two had won.
The double elimination of the U20 boys then continued. Not only the largest junior class, but also with established riders such as Lennart Neubauer, Tobias Bjørnaa and of course Liam Dunkerbeck. Liam had already won the single elimination yesterday
Due to the lack of waves, some of the riders showed a mix of wave and freestyle. Takumi Moriya from Japan went straight for a freestyle sail and performed a shaka on the way out for 3.5 points, but lost to Samuele Ferraro. Marc Alonso switched to a freestyle board during the heat against Hayata Ishii for more lift.
Japan's Hayata Ishii made a strong comeback in the double and worked his way up through four heats until he came up against Anton Richter in the heat for fifth place. Richter rode strongly and showed one of the highest stalled forwards of the day. Otherwise, both showed similar jumps, but in the end Anton had more luck with the waves and progressed. In the next heat, Lennart Neubauer awaited, who seems to learn more and more about wave riding with every heat and gave Richter little chance. Lennart also prevailed against Klimøller local Tobias Bjørnaa and then faced Liam Dunkerbeck in the final.
He naturally wanted to defend his first place and started strongly with two very good jumps and a solid wave. Lennart was able to score points with a wave ride with the same score, but almost at the same time Liam increased his jump score even further. Shortly before the end, Lennart then managed a great wave ride - but Liam countered with an air taka on the wave, leaving nothing to be desired.
The waves had improved a little over the course of the afternoon, so the competition organisers tried to make progress with the pros too. The second round of the men's double elimination was started, but the first heat already showed that the waves were simply not good enough.
So the hopes of the pros - both men and women - are pinned on the final day tomorrow, Sunday. Then they will certainly do everything they can to ski more heats, provided the conditions play ball! Stay tuned!
