A freestyle final in Jericoacoara in December would have been a dream scenario. However, the event, which was added to the PWA calendar for 2025 a few weeks ago, has since been cancelled. The Foil World Cup in China, which has been on the schedule since the beginning of the year - with a question mark - has also been cancelled. "The recent cancellations unfortunately only had to do with budget restrictions," Tour Manager Katrine Kock Frandsen told surf. "We are still in good contact with the organisers in China and Brazil to see if it is possible to hold events in the future."
The event in Tenerife also had to be cancelled, with only the men now competing in Slalom X instead of the women as originally planned. "Tenerife is working hard to build an event that is sustainable both in the long term and economically, work that we support as the PWA." Waveriding is still fully set, however, with the event organised by Dany Bruch running as a fully-fledged Grand Slam from 1 to 10 August.
This means that only the World Cup on Fuerteventura remains on the calendar for the women's slalom X, meaning that the World Championship title will be awarded at just one event. A scenario that is already familiar to the freestylers, where Fuerteventura will once again be the only event this year as things stand. The men's freestyle title will then be awarded on Sylt, while the foil racers will probably be travelling to Japan again at the end of the season: "Japan will be a great end to the racing season. It's an event we're really looking forward to. The Japanese organisers are a long-standing partner that we always enjoy working with," says Katrine.
