Quiet day at the World Cup Sylt...

After three days of action, there was a rest day today at the World Cup Sylt. Hopes of a slalom race did not materialise.

A breather for all the athletes at the schauinsland-reisen Windsurf World Cup Sylt presented by got2be: After three days full of action, the wind took a break today. Only a light breeze was blowing diagonally offshore, not enough for foiling either. Around midday, the anemometers briefly scratched the eight-knot mark and the race organisers began to lay out a course. But it was too early to rejoice, the wind died again and the possible starts were pushed back further and further until the end of the day was finally announced at half past three.

Time enough to review the events of the last few days: Michele Becker's picture-book victory in the first slalom elimination on Saturday, Lennart Neubauer's first World Cup victory yesterday and, of course, Yentel Caers' brilliant race to catch up, which led him to the World Championship title in freestyle. Now all that remains is for the waveriders to get on the water, and there is a good chance of that at the end of the week. In any case, more slalom races are on the cards from Thursday at the latest - if the merciless shorebreak allows for reasonably safe foil starts.

Many riders used the quiet day to regenerate and socialise. Victor Fernandez stopped by the surf stand in the north of the event area to marvel at his cover picture on the October issue, while Lennart Neubauer spoke on stage about his triumph yesterday. Ricardo Campello spoke to editor-in-chief Andreas Erbe in detail about his World Championship dream and his collaboration with Naish - you can read the interview here soon!
