After enrolment and the official opening, some of the pros were lucky. In the golden evening light, there was a small, but nice sundowner session.

The first tents and stands on Brandenburg beach opened around midday and the schauinsland-reisen Windsurf World Cup by got2be quickly filled up with visitors. There were no official races yet, but the prospects for the upcoming ten days are promising and did not necessitate an "early start" as in previous years.

After registering, the riders entered the traditional opening ceremony at the Kurmuschel with their national flags. The participants from the countries behind were a little quicker, however, because a heavy rain shower was falling over Sylt and most of them wanted to get out of the rain as quickly as possible.

However, the rain disappeared, but the wind remained. A number of riders took the opportunity to surf the stress of travelling out of their bones and at least get wet. The mini waves and the somewhat patchy wind were far from being suitable for competition. To the delight of the spectators, who had also all crawled out of their tents again, the wave riders and freestylers gave a foretaste of the week ahead.

Tomorrow things will really get going, the first possible slalom start has been set for 11.30 am. Around then the wind could be sufficient for the first races. Over the next few days, the wind should continue to pick up. We'll be there for you - stay tuned!

His surfing CV includes all the famous choppy water spots: As a teenager, he went from his home in Münsterland to the Ijsselmeer or the Brouwersdam, and during his civilian service on Sylt, after countless washes on the west side, the Königshafen became his preferred spot. After studying in Kiel and Heidkate, he was supposed to go to Hamburg “only for a short time”, but this short time has lasted for over ten years and has made him a “weekend warrior”. He goes on tour with his family and camper van as often as possible, often to the Baltic Sea, SPO or Denmark, but also likes to go to Finland, Sweden or Sardinia.
