World Wave Tour: World Cup Gran Canaria now under the umbrella of the WWT
Pozo action will run under a different roof in 2026 - but not much is likely to change for fans
The 2026 World Cup in Pozo will run under the umbrella of the World Wave Tour instead of the PWA for the first time. However, hardly anything should change for spectators and riders.

The World Wave Tour has announced its co-operation with the Gran Canaria Gloria Windsurf World Cup. As is well known, the WWT and PWA have already united the Wave Tour for several years, so at first glance not much has changed - the status in the race for the world titles remains the same for riders. The WWT promises that 60 per cent of the budget will go towards prize money and has announced that it will be broadcasting the event via its own digital platforms.

Event organiser Bjørn Dunkerbeck hopes that the move to WWT will create better conditions: "We need great partners to take windsurfing where it belongs. The partnership with the WWT brings the expanded commercial opportunities and global reach that this event deserves and helps us build on 35 years of history as we move the sport forward," says Bjørn according to the WWT's official announcement.

Livestream is set

When asked by surf, Dunki adds: "Many things have changed at the PWA in recent years. The WWT has a new concept and we want to give them the chance to prove themselves." He is hoping for even better information for the spectators, with a good livestream and Ben Proffitt as commentator: "He has already done other things for the WWT, so I see no reason why he shouldn't be there." The event is supported by the tourism associations on Gran Canaria, the Gloria Palace Hotel and Red Bull, among others.

In 2026, the Gran Canaria Gloria Windsurf World Cup will run from 4 to 12 July, with wave riding for pros, juniors and masters on the agenda. But there is a clear desire to expand the programme again: "If everything goes well, there will hopefully be a slalom in Pozo again in 2027!" hopes Bjørn. At the same time, he is looking for new partners: "If there are windsurfing bosses in big companies, they are always welcome - at the PWA, the WWT or myself. We all have wind, sun and good-looking people - we just need a few bigger sponsors!"
