WWT/PWA World Cup Tenerife: Dennis Kolb Gonzales wins the U15, Anton Gobisch finishes fourth

The action got underway early on 3 August with the U15 boys’ competition, and Dennis Kolb Gonzalez (Simmer Style) celebrated his second consecutive victory in the Canary Islands – he performed at a level far above that of his rivals and secured the win with perfectly landed backloops and radical turns. Mikey Maclean (Duotone Windsurfing) from Tiree, Scotland, took second place after scoring superb marks on the waves, but fell short on the jumps needed to challenge Gonzalez. Third place went to Jeff Francois from Belgium, whilst Germany’s Anton Gobisch (Duotone Windsurfing) finished fourth. Attention then turned to the junior girls and pro-junior girls. The format for the girls differs from that of the boys: they compete in three rounds with direct finals, the results of which are added together to determine the winners. The first of these finals was completed today for both the junior girls and the pro-junior girls. In the junior girls’ category, Natsuki Wakasa (Goya Windsurfing) and Trine Gobisch (Duotone Windsurfing) were locked in a fiercely contested duel, with just 0.4 points separating them. Trine’s 5.75-point wave at the start gave her an early lead, but Natsuki secured victory with a 3.12-point forward loop at the end of the heat. Third place went to Fumi Akita, whilst Bobbi-Lynn De Jong (Starboard / Neilpryde) finished fourth. In the Pro Juniors, Sol Degrieck (Severne Windsurfing) claimed a convincing victory and put in a heat that will be hard to beat even in the Pro Women’s – she scored 13.12 points on the waves alone!
As the waves and wind picked up in strength, attention turned to the Challengers – where four men and four women had the chance to qualify for the main round. Noah Vocker (Bruch Boards / Sailloft), who was making his comeback after an eight-year break from competition, and Josep Pons (Point 7) were the standout male riders in the Challengers – they each won their side of the heat board, thereby securing their places in the main field. They are joined by Sammy Ferraro (Patrik) and the 2025 Junior World Champion, Javier Escribano (Goya Windsurfing / MFC), who has made it through to the main draw for the first time. In the women’s competition, it was primarily the junior women who shone in the Challengers, demonstrating the talent of the next generation: Bobbi-Lynn De Jong, Natsuki Wakasa and Trine Gobisch all made it through to the main round, as did Milanka Linde.
