Test of crossover boards for waving, SUPing and windfoiling: The Slingshot Shred Sled in the individual evaluation

At 143 litres, the Shred Sled is one of the heavy transporters in the wing-foil league, with features such as the all-round side bevels and the raised rear end identifying the shape as a wing specialist. The foil position, which can only be mounted far forward, and the strap positions - single at the rear, centred at the front and diagonal - are a perfect match. The board has established itself as a very good base for getting into wing foiling, and the first take-off is child's play. With the right Slingshot Foil, the board flies very stable and easy to control, even in very light winds. The board remains much easier to control than the RRD board despite its greater volume, as its relatively short length makes it easier to balance in the air. The two straps are mounted in the centre (at a slight angle at the front) and ensure good control, but you ride "switch" on one side, so there is no need to change feet in the jibe.

We only used the rear strap for windsurf foiling, which gave us some security on the straights, but didn't help in the jibe, which you surf "strapless", which is a bit more demanding than with the front strap in secure board contact. Even with a sail, the set-up impressed with very early lift and incredibly long "flying through" wind holes or jibes even at the lowest speeds. Sporty windsurf foiling is not possible due to the lack of loops and wing surfing also concentrates on cruising and foiled manoeuvres rather than jumping due to the size. In addition to the windfoil disciplines, the board is also recommended for SUP foiling in waves - we were unable to try this, but we can speculate that this is very possible in smaller waves. Classic SUP surfing with fins is understandably not intended for this shape.

surf conclusion:The Shred Sled is well trimmed for wing foiling and windsurf foiling and is ideal for beginners in both sports. Advanced riders can use it to cruise in light winds with a sail or wing and perform foiling manoeuvres - or will prefer smaller boards with more loop options.
