The flying carpet from Tabou is designed as a crossover board for windfoiling and wings. In addition to the test size with 120 litres, the model is also available in a slightly smaller version with 110 litres. Both sizes are equipped with a foil box as well as a double rail positioned further forward for mounting wing foils. The dual use is also reflected in the strap equipment: on the large pad, you can mount both a 3-piece set-up for wings and 4-piece straps in a moderate position. In our experience, typical freeride foils such as the GA Hybrid 1200 we use are best for windfoiling, then you can cruise across the water in a relaxed manner after overcoming the noticeable resistance in the chop phase. The wide and flat deck offers plenty of space for foot changes, both when bobbing and during foil manoeuvres, and the strap positions are easy to reach even for windfoil beginners.
The Magic Carpet is also a convincing board for wing novices, at least with the high-lift GA Hybrid 2000 front wing we use. The board is easy to foil, cruises stably around all axes and offers a lot of safety during the first manoeuvres. Ambitious wingsurfers will also find the Magic Carpet a little too big and bulky at some point, but the Tabou can also be a veritable permanent solution for first wing experiences, heavy riders or light wind areas. One drawback in our eyes is the position of the boxes, which are a little too far back. This works well with the original foils mentioned, but if you use foils from other brands with a shorter fuselage, it is often not possible to mount them as far forward as is actually necessary to keep the bow up with relaxed pressure distribution on both legs.
surf conclusion: The Tabou Magic Carpet takes windfoil freeriders on relaxed sightseeing flights, ideally in combination with sail sizes between 5 and 7 square metres. To be on the safe side, you should use the matching original foil from GA.
