Fanatic FreeWave 105 TE
Surf recommendation for Fanatic: The boarder company offers three shapes in this freemove class and they are accordingly quite uncompromising. The FreeWave is reserved for heavy surfers who actually want to surf real waves more often, for flat water it is definitely worth tuning with a single fin. The Hawk is the light wind race machine and perhaps for many surfers their biggest board, on which even a 7.2 still works well. The Gecko is a very comfortable, easy-to-surf freeride board with the best chances of success for gliding through jibes for all newcomers to this board group who may also want to switch from larger boards.

On land:Very comfortable straps are Fanatic standard. The FreeWave has a very domed deck, Hawk and Gecko are rather flat. Rare in this class: The FreeWave is equipped with three fin boxes, one power box and two slot boxes. The 36 mm fin in the Hawk stretches upwards in a really racy manner.

On the water:With a thruster set-up, Fanatic is boldly entering the 100-litre class, as the advantages are mainly evident when surfing - a discipline that only very few 100-kilo surfers in this volume class are probably aiming for. And the FreeWave should be reserved for them. On the straight, in the turn - no other board is as agile and easy to turn, the "Free" actually feels more like a big "wave". When other boards go into the "tight jibe" with maximum pressure, the FreeWave is still able to pass by light-footedly in the inside curve. But that's where it ends, because the consistently weak planing characteristics cause the shape to falter early on, even in planing manoeuvres. In speed duels, you will prefer to turn off after 200 metres with a snapped jibe and save yourself the humiliation of an unequal comparison ride. The riding experience is not particularly inviting, even if you stand relaxed on the dome-shaped deck, because the board goes up and down more in chop than it flies over it, and it is easy to lever out of the water, but in the air it is not quite as airy as some of the much lighter boards due to its higher weight. However, the Fanatic makes surprisingly good use of its second chance in flat water. With the fin from the Exocet Cross, the board suddenly glides almost as well as the Starboard Kode, is even faster, runs more freely and can even keep the pressure on the fin longer in wind holes and thus glide further. The thrusters only take on very little pressure, slide more frequently and without sail pull the board does not stay planing for long.
