Our (genetic) test in the Langebaan laboratory clearly identified the Goya One as the slightly better-behaved brother of the Quatro Power. Everything that the Quatro does well, the Goya does a little more moderately, making it perhaps an even more balanced all-rounder. It all depends on your preferences. In wave use, the Quatro feels like it turns just by looking at the wave, the Goya effectively does this no worse, the board just needs a little more input. In terms of wave suitability, it is one of the top contenders in the group.
And in flat water? Even beyond big wave crests, the board surfs freely and quite lively. In terms of acceleration and planing, it feels ten per cent more powerful than the Quatro Power. It starts gliding slightly earlier and quickly reaches top speed, but from then on the sibling duel is a draw. Both boards score with a free planing position, but the Goya offers a consistently more comfortable ride. The damping under the soles - when surfing against the chop - is much more effective on the Goya One than on the noticeably harder Quatro Power - but without compromising performance.
Despite this good freeride suitability, the Goya One has a rather "wavy" feeling, caused by its liveliness and quick reaction to foot control. It can be steered from the ankle into the jibe, the radii are freely selectable and the board can be steered through the turn from extremely tight to wide. However, it needs to be steered very actively, especially in wide lines, and in rough water it is more easily unsettled by small waves, which can only be compensated for with consistent foot control. However, the planing potential is also good on the rail, and if you steer the board through the turn with feeling, you will get back on course quickly.
If you want to tune the board with an additional single fin for flat water, you can use a regular fin. The box is already suitably positioned in the board for this, while the fin head of the centre fin for the thruster set has been offset so that the fin is positioned further forward in the board - which also noticeably improves the turning characteristics.
Very manoeuvrable and agile, the Goya One is particularly recommended for lighter people and for frequent use in the waves. Overall, it is also very balanced in flat water, with predominantly good, albeit somewhat more demanding jibing characteristics.
