The JP-Australia Freestyle Wave is also one of the most versatile boards in the group in the current test. Plenty of grip and gliding power combined with comfort and sportiness make the 94 a real all-rounder.

Hardly any other board offers such a well-balanced mix of comfort, control and yet a sporty, free glide when riding over choppy water as the JP-Australia Freestyle Wave. With the large fin set (you won't find a 25 mm centre fin anywhere else), the board runs freely, very stable and straight. Stance width, strap position and the deck rounding under the straps ensure a particularly comfortable stance, even with the straps in the inside position. With the standard fins, the JP "wags" fast enough, but not quite with the wave feeling that a Duotone or Goya mediate.

The JP-Australia Freestyle Wave planes very well and accelerates more powerfully than all 3-fin boards and also seems faster. Nevertheless, it doesn't cause any headaches in choppy water (even after hours of sessions), thanks to the slightly dampened set-up compared to pure freeride boards such as the Tabou 3S. The three fins also offer maximum grip in a straight line and spin-outs are almost impossible to provoke, even wilfully. This allows you to put good pressure on the tail for a free planing position, with which the JP-Australia Freestyle Wave sweeps high over choppy water. If you do crash into a wave, this is also dampened and acknowledged with a muffled "woop" rather than a loud bang. The high upwind speed and good grip are the best prerequisites for powerful jumps off small choppy water ramps.

The board is a really hot sweeper in gybes of all radii. You enter the turn with good speed and the JP-Australia Freestyle Wave takes it willingly: Extremely stable on the edge in wide carving jibes, the board maintains the radius right up to the exit of the turn with the least possible loss of speed - even if you almost put the sail down on the water in the jibe. Only for very tight turns do you have to release some sail pressure, but you still can't turn it quite as snappy as a Duotone or Starboardwhich can take advantage of the shorter fins and straps mounted further back. However, with fin tuning (we tried the 19 Duotone), the characteristics can be changed significantly, then the board turns in flat water and also on the wave almost like the really agile candidates - with a real wave feeling.

surf summary of the JP-Australia Freestyle Wave 94 Pro

The JP-Australia Freestyle Wave remains one of the most versatile boards: sporty, easy and comfortable to surf. For maximum wave suitability, the board should be fitted with a smaller centre fin, which is particularly beneficial due to the very large standard fin.
