The 2025 Freemoveboards in the 95-litre class at a glance.
In the upcoming surf issue 3/2025 you can read the big test Freemoveboards 95, where you can take a first look at the test candidates.

Freemove, freestyle wave, crossover - the test group is once again as diverse as the international names for this group of "all-rounders". This time, we've shaken things up with an additional freemove board from JP-Australia with a single fin, as well as new shapes from Duotone, Starboard and Severne.

The fin topic remains hot in the freemove board test, because the fin setup alone can significantly change characteristics such as "tight turning", "wave suitability" or "carving jibes". However, not always in the way you might expect at first glance. We have already tried this out for the upcoming test!

One or three fins - that remains the question

Out of eight models in the Freemoveboards 95 test, two models are delivered with only one fin box, all others are equipped as thrusters as standard. With Starboard, you also get the single fin as standard, at least in the highest quality board construction. Brands such as Starboard, Goya and Quatro have offset the powerbox head of the centre fin lengthways on their freemove boards so that the position fits perfectly for both single fins and triple fins.

You can see all the boards in the test and lots of details in the gallery above!

Deputy Editor in Chief surf

Stephan Gölnitz comes from Bochum and had Holland as his home windsurfing territory for many years before moving to Munich in 1996 for the job of test editor at surf magazine. The materials engineering graduate worked as a surf instructor on the Ijsselmeer during his studies and competed for several seasons for the Essen sailing team in the Surfbundesliga and the Funboard Cup. He completed a traineeship at surf-Magazin in the test department and since then has actively accompanied almost all tests on the boom and for more than 10 years also as a photographer. Stephan has covered many thousands of test kilometers, mainly on Lake Garda and in Langebaan, but also in Egypt and Tobago. He gets his hands on over 100 new sails and boards every year as his company car. Privately, he prefers to surf with a foil on Lake Walchensee or “unfortunately far too rarely” in the waves. SUP is Stephan's second passion, which he pursued for several years at numerous SUP races. Today, he prefers to paddle on river tours with family or friends - even for several days.
