Test: Exocet Cross (2021)
The freemove classic Exocet Cross has been given an extensive update for the 2021 season - and not just visually. We tested the board.

On land:

The Freemove classic Cross has been given an extensive update - and not just visually. The Cross is also available with the same shape in the 300 gram heavier Silver version, which is a whopping 500 euros cheaper at 1690 euros. The Cross Carbon 104 we tested weighs in at a very light 6.45 kilos. A 32 mm single fin emphasises its focus on freeride and bump & jump, rather than freestyle and waves.

On the water:

The Cross Carbon really gets going in the planing phase and has a pleasingly low ride resistance. The planing position offers a good mix of a sporty, free ride and the necessary control to be able to ride the board comfortably even in rough conditions. Compared to the older Cross from a few years ago, the update feels a little livelier and is also more fun for sporty riders. It is pleasing that the concept has retained its strengths in the jibe: The Cross pulls through the chop like it's on rails and offers ideal grip on the edge - regardless of whether you're a beginner who tends to load the board carefully or carve into the turn at full throttle. Only really tight radii are limited by the shape and fin set-up, especially as the board offers no thruster option.

surf conclusion:

Gliding, fast, controllable and perfect in the jibe - freeriders and bump & jump surfers will rightly prick up their ears. The shape is ideally equipped with sails between 4.5 and 7.5 square metres. Compared to the Freemoveboards 105 (surf 4/2021) we tested, the Exocet Cross Carbon is one of the most powerful boards and is in a league of its own when it comes to wide jibes. For manoeuvres up to loop, carving 360s and Vulcan, the board leaves nothing to be desired, only for even more ambitious freestyle tricks and surf use does the shape seem somewhat limited.
