On land: The Style Wave is advertised by NoveNove as a flat water and bump & jump board. Shaper Gianni Valdambrini has given the board thick and voluminous edges and kept the deck quite flat. The straps and pads are comfortable, but you won't find a 4-loop set-up, which indicates a manoeuvre-oriented focus.
On the water:Whether you are honing your first gybes or looking for a strong wind board for heating, carving and jumping - the calm disposition of the NoveNove will find many friends. The board glides smoothly over the planing threshold without any resistance and is easy to ride, even in chop and strong winds. You stand quite high on the voluminous edges. Even though the name Style Wave suggests a focus on freestyle and waves, the board is primarily designed for bump & jump and manoeuvres, which is clearly where its strengths lie. Although the NoveNove requires some riding skill to stabilise the edge in chop, the rails grip securely and allow wide and medium radii in particular. The board can only be turned very tightly with a lot of pressure and reduced speed. For a few backside wave rides in moderate waves, however, the turning ability is definitely sufficient. Only those who expect a radical wave feeling for tight frontside rides might find the Style Wave a little too well-behaved, despite the rather short and curved 26 mm series fin.
surf conclusion: Does 80 per cent of your surfing life take place on flat water or in bump & jump conditions? You only do freestyle manoeuvres sporadically and you rarely want to go into the surf with this board? Then the NoveNove shape should earn the title "tutto bene" as a single board solution - thanks to a good combination of planing performance, control and manoeuvrability.
